"A man may not always eat and drink what is good for him; but it is better for him and less ignominious to die of the gout freely than to have a censor officially appointed over his diet, who after all could not render him immortal."
-George Santayana

The events of Saturday,  January 8, are even more tragic in light of the fact that "blame" for it has been placed on the most unlikely group of people.  The media, along with several "officials" (a sheriff, congressmen and senators alike) were quick to report that the "vitriol" of the TEA Party movement, as well as talk radio personalities were responsible for this insane act.

Not one of them spoke of the gunman.  Not one of them reported that the shooter was a member (or at least a follower) of a group known as American Renaissance which is anti-Semitic, (Giffords is Jewish), anti-Israel, anti-immigration and anti-government.  How many have reported that his favorite books were Mein Kampf and The Communist Manifesto?  Not one reported that a Daily Kos reporter, just a few days before the attack, accused Giffords of being a conservative in liberal clothing and that she was "dead to me, dead to me." The Daily Kos is a leftist blog. Not one news reporter said that the people who were attending the open air meeting were expressing their First Amendment rights.  Not one reported that the shooter has so much hate in his body and soul that he would kill so many people-including a child-for no apparent reason.  Not one reporter had enough guts to investigate the shooter's true motives.  Few (if any) reported that he was instructed not to return to school until he (or his parents) could assure that the safety of other students could be guaranteed.  Few reported that the armed services refused to accept his application.  Few reported that he was on "radar" (or should have been) for quite some time.  We are reminded of the Virginia Tech shooter who was KNOWN to school officials to have "problems" BEFORE he began his rampage.  Finally, no one placed the blame squarely where it belonged - on the shooter himself!

A Congresswoman was shot, but so were 19 others.  Six of them, including a Federal judge and a 9 year old child, were killed.  Let us pray for the victims and demand justice on their behalf.  Let us also not let the media use this heinous act as an excuse to demand that lawful dissent be silenced.
